The problem is that the light does not sense traffic on Central waiting for the light to change. Motorists don't understand that they need to stop before the stop bar ( and actually approach it rather slowly and deliberately in order for the light to detect their vehicle. Motorists often stop between the stop bar and the crosswalk and it isn't until either traffic queues up behind them or a vehicle from the opposite direction stops on the proper place that the light wil change. The other problem with many of the new signals is that they have been placed beyond the intersection instead of at it, thus contributing to red light running. Thank you.
I've seen this light also function erratically. Once as I approached it from Central Ave, the light facing Edgewood turned red, the crosswalk signals were enabled, and then the light facing Edgewood turned green again without allowing Central Ave traffic to go through. I've also heard others with the same issue. I do stop at the stop bar and it appears that the sensor is not detecting cars as they approach.
We are closing this issue as we believe it has been addressed. If it remains a problem, please create a new SCF request outlining the current details of the persisting issue. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
