Really, what is the big deal over fireworks!! Everyone crowds in downtown, people act a mess and the fireworks are over in 15 minutes....Let's spend that money where it's needed. Do people understand it takes like $60,000 to put on a 15-20 minute display??...that's counting the fireworks, the people to set off the fireworks, all the safety precautions, and the extra staff and overtime because its a holiday. Let's put that extra money to where it is needed

Portland show is alot longer and better, I think the cost is less considering where it is located. Middletown has to have a ton of Officers and Firemen on to handle all the crowds downtown.
Portlands fireworks are also ALL donations. Big difference. Middletown residents who are so upset should start a committee like Portland did. NO tax dollars are used for Portland fireworks.

Understanding the issue of no money in Middletown is the cause of the fireworks being cancelled, but it does hurt the local businesses that rely on more people coming downtown. I also like the community feeling of everyone getting together. I hope maybe next year we can work something out and maybe help raise soem of the money needed to have a show.

If everyone wants the fireworks in MIddletown, lets start fundraising right now for next year. The local businesses should all contribute, if they really depend on "all" the business they get.The local citizens should give what they think appropriate. I'm sure we could could come up with a nice chunk, and then the city could cover the rest. Like someone above said, MPD was able to $$ desk chairs, and city hall got some prime flat screens. There MUST be $$ somewhere they can skim to fill in for fireworks!!

I don't get it! They raise property taxes in the same year my property value went down and then they cut one of the few events in Middletown that I go too.
Seems the only thing you can count on is more taxes.
