Description

I have driven Lomas for many years and the westbound traffic from a green light at San Mateo has been clear through the light at Monroe. However, since about a month ago, something has changed in the timing. When the traffic starts from a green light at San Mateo we are now hitting a red light at Monroe, causing all the traffic that just started to stop again. This does not appear to be a coincidence. It happens at noon and at 5pm. Please change it back to keep traffic flowing. Thank you.

Thank you for the update. Per the traffic engineering division, "Traffic signal time clocks set at intersections to allow for better progression along Lomas. Traffic Engineering will continue to monitor this intersection in the future."

I drove through there this afternoon. Nothing has changed. Traffic leaves on a green at San Mateo and stops at Monroe.

No change. Go through there at 5:15 pm. Start at a green light at San Mateo and stop at a red light at Monroe. It is very regular. Can something be adjusted? Thank you.

Every weekday afternoon, between 5-5:30, traffic stops at a red on San Mateo and stops at Monroe. I realize, having gone through the intersections on Friday at noon, that the timing apparently changes throughout the day, but it appears to be consistent. Please have Traffic Engineering make their observations during rush hour. Thank you.

No response from the City, no change in timing, start at San Mateo, stop at Monroe. One would think the traffic department would want to try to improve traffic flow with input from those who drive the streets daily. I am apparently mistaken.

You think this one is bad, Try making it through the San Pedro & Constitution E/W traffic light in the LITERALLY 6 seconds the light is green, compared to the 90 seconds it's Green for N/S. I drive through there every morning. It's not uncommon to sit through 2 cycles.

No change. I have been through the intersection at 12:15pm and 4:15pm and it is timed to allow traffic to keep flowing. It appears that something changes around 5pm and I guess no one at the City works at that time.

Has Traffic Engineering even looked at this? Every weekday between 5-5:30 start at San Mateo, stop at Monroe. Try it at other times and there is no stopping. Why can't the City respond?

No change. 12pm, 4pm, no stopping. 5pm-6pm always stop. I guess maintaining traffic flow is not important for city traffic management.

The more you stop & go, the more fuel you use, meaning the more the city, county and state make in taxes. Smooth traffic flow is counter to that.

Yup, about the same reasoning as to why the Water Utility does not respond to requests to make repairs to low/high manholes and water valves. Keeps money flowing to repair shops and related businesses. Plus it would cut into their own budget to make these repairs.
