The road should be redesigned and reconstructed up to modern traffic engineering standards. (Some storm drains would help) Hamden has let a lot of its border roads (Mt. Carmel Ave into Wallingford and Brooks Road into Bethany are two more) deteriorate into unsafe conditions. They should coordinate with the neighbors and get these roads fixed. Closing them is just going to move the traffic somewhere else. Fix them so they can handle the traffic they receive.

I doubt that so many people speed on this road since it's so bumpy.

And I think if it wasn't bumpy more people would use it and speed down Wintergreen. I live on Wintergreen and there are cars that fly down the smoother areas toward New Haven. More often than not they're young kids driving customized little cars.

Actually, you have a good point. When Springside is as bumpy as it is now, there is less speeding. (Mostly just the school buses seem undeterred.) When it has been recently repaved, the number of cars that wipe out at the corner of Springside and Hard increases dramatically. They generally bounce off the guardrail ,cross the oncoming traffic lane, and land on my neighbor's front doorstep.

I don't think this suggestion is particularly productive or serious, and would probably not be in the interest of the regional council of governments, so I'm going to recommend closing the issue.

Feel free to reopen if you can get more neighbors to support this cause.

I'd also recommend dealing with the root causes of the problems you are noticing. There are many more effective ways to improve public safety and reduce speeding and noise.
