The sidewalks on West Main Street from Linsley Avenue to the Chamberlain Highway are slated for replacement over the next several years. The section from Linsley to North Second is currently being engineered. This is a federally funded project being administered by the State DOT, so the approval take a lengthy period of time to obtain. This section of West Main Street is a state highway. Funding is being secured through Congressman Murphy on an annual basis and again will take time to get the funding necessary to get to the area of Windsor Avenue. However, this is a priority and the City will continue to work to move this project forward as quickly as possible give the funding sources.
The sidewalk I'm concern about is at the intersection of w.main at the corner were subway is located if your heading west on w.main the sidewalk ends an there is a huge drop of an no room to turn an electric wheelchair around there is a big grassy spot near by were u can try to get onto the street to cross but my wheelchair tipped over causing me to fall in street in front of on coming traffic. ..was told by rescue workers that I'm not the only one that has fallen at that intersection please fix.
we was told 3 years ago this was the summer they would all be done now what in 3 years maybe what is it going to take the state to move faster a person get hit by a car because they fall in to the road handicap people have to use there chairs in the road because the sidewalks are so bad. meriden needs to call them and push them to move faster...so sorry this happened to you Maryanne.it's the same up near the meriden pawn shop sidewalks realy bad wheelchairs get stuck, people walking fall trip baby strollers get stuck have to pick them up over.and try shoveling them just as bad .
