Description
During morning rush hour there are several near accidents and sometimes major backups along I-90 west bound between exits 7 & 8.
The cause is motorists trying to merge onto I 90 from exit 7 and unless they are going to 787 then need to merge again into the center lane. My suggestion is to close the exit (by blocking it with a police car or DOT truck) during the peak morning rush so traffic flows quicker through the area and accidents can be avoided.

The main problems at this location are: 1) drivers are still going 70-75 MPH headed westbound, when they should be following the 55 MPH speed limit, 2) the traffic merging onto I-90 from Route 43 at Exit 8 is too much, and it overwhelms all the traffic already traveling on I-90, and 3) the Exit 7 ramp is too short and doesn't allow drivers enough time to get onto I-90 before the ramp for 787 veers off.
Exit 7 also needs to have two new exit ramps installed on the east side of the bridge, so that motorists don't have to drive all the way around the Exit 8 ramp in order to get to Washington Ave. in Rensselaer.
