Description
Every evening starting around 5 pm as many as three tour buses park – often with their engines running – in front of the Buca de Beppo restaurant at 1825 Connecticut Ave NW, discharging, waiting for and picking up tourists headed for the restaurant. They take over the bus stop section of the road, blocking access by pedestrians. At times buses on Connecticut Avenue can’t even see if someone is waiting for a bus, unless they step into the street between the buses. At other times, the buses can not park next to the curb. In addition to the blockade by the buses, the restaurant has placed its “valent parking” sign right in front of the bus stop lane, so cars stop there, again blocking the buses. •

" I am not sure how valet parking fits into this scenario at all. First, the establishment has never applied for a valet parking permit, thus they may not legally provide valet parking services in public space. Second, if they had been issued a permit they would know that they are not allowed at anytime to provide valet parking in a bus zone. Third, tour buses may not at any time occupy a Metro bus zone or a valet staging zone.
I agree with Wilson that this is an MPD enforcement issue. They may shut down a valet service operating without a public space permit and they may also issue a citation to a tour bus occupying a Metro bus zone.
I hope this helps. - Alice Kelly | Manager | Public Space Policy Branch"
