Description

Why was the speed limit reduced on Ft. Eustis Blvd? Yes, I am aware that someone had an accident when they fell asleep a few weeks ago and crashed through the barricade and fell to their death in the reservoir. It's unfortunate and sad. However, making this long isolated road that is nowhere near any residential or school areas have a lower speed limit is pointless. If you fall asleep at the wheel and drift off the road in this location, your going to go through the barricades no matter how fast or slow you are going. This is equivalent to reducing the speed limit in an area because there are lots of DUI drivers caught in the area. A DUI driver is already breaking the law to begin with by driving, so why would they bother to follow a speed limit? What happened here a few weeks ago was a genuine accident. Return the speed limit to 45Mph and stop it with these silly "Feel Good" political actions that accomplish nothing. Or maybe the police wanted a new speedtrap area and the accident was the perfect excuse to drop the speed limit? If you seriously want to do something to prevent people from falling off the bridge to their death, then arrange to have a more substantial solid concrete barrier installed, instead of the small metal and pipe style one. Thank you!
