I pass by this church nearly every day. So sad. Whoever owns this property should be ashamed. I'm assuming it went into foreclosure and is the responsibility of another faceless bank claiming they're good public stewards. Hold their feet to the fire on this one please!
I used to live near that church and you could tell it was going downhill long ago. Some of the neighbors should get together and do what they can to make the place presentable for now. A lot of traffic passes that church and it is a bad message, to all who pass by, in regard to the city.
We welcome change and progress; for we believe that responsibility and prosperity go together, that the advance of progress in our neighborhoods can only strengthen the cause of content and harmony. There is one sign the City of Dearborn can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of beautification and city pride. Mayor O'Reilly, if you seek advancements, if you seek prosperity for the Outer Drive and Village Road neighborhood, if you seek stability in property values in Dearborn, come here to this Church. Mayor O'Reilly, keep the property mowed - take down the fence. Mayor O'Reilly - tear down this church and house ! (adapted from Pres. Reagan's speech at the Brandenburg Wall, June 12, 1987.)
GOOD NEWS -- A crew has been stripping the metal valuables inside the church and house for the last 2 weeks -- I talked with one of the guys and he said that demolition of the buildings will start this next week -- 1st Dec. They are going to tear down the church and the house, and most of the blacktop parking in the rear of the church to make way for 4 houses to be built. They will leave a blacktop drive thru the alley.
Church and House are gone -- clean up is progressing ... Hopefully the city does NOT allow monster houses to be built in their place. I would hope that the city builds houses that compliment the neighboring houses -- 3 ranches would be nice, and WITH garages ... most houses built in this neighborhood in the last 10 years have NOT had garages --
