Description

The traffic signal on 55th St crossing MLK used to have a pedestrian button in the center median under the BART tracks, but is now gone now that BART has reconstructed the pedestrian island and signals as part of their seismic retrofit project. One of my elderly neighbors was almost hit by a car at the south side of the intersection here today because she couldn't get across both sides of MLK before the light turned green. Please add a median pedestrian button to this intersection ASAP and make sure it is accessible to people in wheelchairs as well, since the median island does not have ADA ramps (why not by the way?). Also, the ped walk signal is still covered up on the southwest corner of the intersection, even though the crosswalk there is officially "open". Discouraging, poor work altogether, I'm sad to say.
