Call the fire dept, they investigate arsons, they would have the info on the previous fires and could connect the dots better than the PD

There is nothing any department can do accept be aware of the situation.

gee, couldnt have anything to do with the economy being in the toilet could it? sorry for the sarcasm but insurance fraud always seems to pick up during bad financial times. Maybe some day this corner will get the shopping and apartments/condos that it needs.

Is it possible for LCI or another City office to investigate this? It could be an innocent misunderstanding, but it certainly doesn't sound like it. We don't need any more vacant "holes" in our neighborhood.

From what I understand, it is not about insurance fraud. Apparently, the properties (buildings) have many restrictions on them. So, what do you do when a bunch of old buildings are preventing you from building a super condo complex? The city would not allow the buildings that were burned last year (on Q Ave) to have an addition built on to it the way the owner wanted, now they are gone. There is a clean slate.

That breaks my heart. There's a good reason why we preserve the historic character of neighborhoods. If the owner wanted to change the land use, he or she needs to bring the neighborhood onboard and convince them that it is the right thing to do. Property developers can't just go around doing whatever they want, regardless of their neighbors' wishes—not in this town or anywhere else.

Part of the problem with development, in New Haven, is the lack of comprehensive code. Based on the current codes, New Haven could not be rebuilt as it currently exists - the city would end up looking like Hamden Plaza (see Whalley Ave. as an example of what New Haven city plan mandates). New Haven needs to adopt a form based code to create a predictable, functioning, aesthetically pleasing built environment.

I saw the Fire Department There around 2pm. They were in the Little white car so I think it was the Fire Marshals office. Lets see what happens.

Tire fires are very nasty. Hard to put out once they get going. The smoke is extremely toxic and noxious
Maybe there is a connection with a scrap dealer or auto shop who just doesn't want to pay anyone to get rid of the accumulated tires ? Too bad no-one got a license plate # of the tire dumper

I live very close to where the Lincoln Flower shop once stood... I have small children and pets.... I would absolutely be livid if this was in fact a set-up for arson and the Fire Marshall allowed it to happen. Should someone call the fire marshall directly and inquire?
