Traffic experts prefer traffic lights - since statistically they are safer.
But I would prefer stop signs. They force everyone to always stop - and thus go slower in the neighborhood areas.
We just need to keep making waves - and perhaps they will change them.

Mr Hoffay (Ward 2 Alderman - who is a dear friend an excellent alderman) is reluctant to remove lights due to the traffic hazzard to pedestrians. I disagree with him because traffic being forced to stop (at a stop sign - vs speeding through a green or yellow light) is safer for pedestrians.
He ran into problems pushing for that on Wall and North Front - and it became an exercise in futility. I think other intersections (like this one) have clearly need for removing the lights and replacing with all way stop signs.
Let's keep up pressue on this issue! Let Mr Hoffay know how you feel! Along with other aldermen and women

Once there is a certain amount of traffic, a traffic light is called for. On some streets there is more traffic than others. Also, high pedestrian traffic often calls for the light - such as at wall and pearl (which I think should go to flashing red and yellow at night, but will never happen because of St. Joe's School.
I do beleive that at night all signals should switch to flashing reds.
Check the traffic flow studies on the Ulster County Planning Website - and if there is low traffic flow - then you can request removal of the light. Contact Your Alderman - for most of those locations, I think the alderman is Shirley Whitlock.
