true that employees should not park where a parking sticker is needed but it is definitly known that Griffin should do something about the parking situation around the hospital. it is nearly impossible for an employee to park after 9am! then they risk being late for work, thats probably why they end up parking where they are not suppose to. I just going off of what a few friends of mine have told me that work there. (and no they do not park on winter/summer/seymour ave)

Most Griffin Employees park at the Cancer center or lot on Seymor Ave.
I wouldn't call them lazy if they are going to work!
It is so hard to find parking after 9 AM and the side streets do not have NO PARKING signs!
Most employees that work during the day get out early. I don't think are taking up parking when people come home from work.

Actually, if you ever have a chance to check for yourself, there ARE signs. They say something like Restricted parking. Residents only -- others can park there for around 2 hours. Griffin employees do park where those signs are -- including Seymour Avenue where the signs are very clear -- residents only. And then when we get home from work -- 4:00 or after, they are still there. And we have nowhere to park. We circle the blocks looking for spaces. And most of the cars on the side streets -- Winter, Spring, etc., do not have resident stickers which means they're Griffin employees. How do I know they're from Griffin? Neighbors have called the police to ticket them and when that happens they start parking up behind the hospital and at least one came out when being ticketed - wearing scrubs, etc. I've passed that parking lot belonging to Griffin that's behind the hospital on Seymour Ave. at all times of the day and there's always tons of parking there. My neighbors have stated the same thing. Another neighbor told me she asked one of the people why they park there, on Seymour Ave. where it says residents only and was told that the nurse likes to go in the side door and will park where she pleases.

Actually, Griffin employees aren't allowed to park at the Cancer Center. There is literally ONE employee parking lot and if that's full (and it usually is by the time it is 7:30am), they have to drive down the street to the park and leave their car in the lot there and take a shuttle over to the hospital.

I can understand that residents are frustrated with all the employees parking in front of their homes (i would be as well), and I can also understand why employees would prefer to be close to the hospital instead of the lot at the park where cars have been broken into. On first and second shift it is impossible for anyone driving themselves in to work at the hospital. THe parking restrictions for employees at Griffin are ridiculous, and the lack of employee parking is also ridiculous...but I doubt any of the residents would want to see them build a two story parking garage in a residential area...so...what is the answer here? I wish i knew. This is yet another reason I work nights...no parking issues for people who don't sleep at night!

Time for Griffin to buld a garage where the lot is with an enclosed walk built over Seymour Ave.

Griffin was actually required to build a parking garage as part of the hospital's last major renovation in the 1980's. It was approved by Derby P&Z , but they later let them out of the requirement when Griffin complained that they couldn't afford it and that the state wouldn't subsidize parking as they did the renovation of the Hospital. Griffin also did not believe that they could/should charge for parking (like most other hospitals), which is another mechanism to finance construction.

I agree, it's time to build. Employees can use a pass card to park there. It would also relieve congestion in the area, as on Division Street.

When was the last time Griffin Sacks Fifth Avenue Hospital couldn't afford something? Have you seen how upscale that facility is? Derby letting them out of the requirement to build a parking garage was a sin!
