Description
Heading East on Sheridan Street in Hollywood to join I-95 southbound – there is a problem that just needs a directional sign to fix.
At N 29th Avenue, there is a right turn from Sheridan Street that allows entry into the Railroad Station – but many drivers don’t know you can also use it to access I-95 Southbound. Since there is no sign indicating a way to I-95, many cars wait and the traffic backs up way over the bridge and back down Sheridan.
Lately, drivers who DO know, simply cut around anyone waiting at the light in the right hand lane so they avoid waiting for the light. Or the traffic jams up on Sheridan Street and over the bridge waiting their turn which might result in waiting for more than one light. And that light is excessively long, I’ve timed it at over 3 minutes.
Just put a sign at N 29th Avenue that says “I-95 Southbound” with an arrow. Can you help me know who is the right entity to erect the sign? FDOT says it’s not them.

Thank you for your e-mail to Mayor Peter Bober advising of your concerns with traffic backing up at the intersection of Sheridan Street and I-95 and requesting signage be placed at North 29 Avenue.
Your e-mail was forwarded to the City's Engineering & Construction Services for their investigation and response. Project Engineer Laura Borgesi forwarded your e-mail for review to Mr. Mark Plass at the Florida Department of Transportation since your request would directly impact I-95, and Mr. Plass advised the following:
"We have been asked before to provide signing on EB Sheridan Street that indicates I95 SB can be accessed via the park and ride lot. We will not sign for this as the parking lot is not designed as a thoroughfare between Sheridan Street and I95 SB. We have worked with Broward County Traffic to optimize the timing of the traffic signals at the I95 interchange and N. 29 Avenue in an effort to reduce delay to motorists, especially those on Sheridan Street. The signal operation is complex and the potential for delay reduction is limited."
We are sorry that the FDOT's response was not more favorable. Ms. Borgesi requested that you contact her directly via telephone #(954)921-3915, if you had further traffic related issues that she could assist with. Thank you again for your e-mail to Mayor Peter Bober.
