It is the same kid on the red dirt bike for the past year...speeding, reckless driving, blowing lights...please NHPD do something...I have been tempted to "swerve" towards him many times...do something before someone else hits and kills this kid. He singlehandedly destroys the neighborhood for everyone else...
Carl F.----I was driving down Front Street the other day when 2 ATV'S blew by me with the bikes up in the air. A car was coming in the oppisite direction and had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting them. I agree something has to be done in the Fair Haven area to stop this before someone gets hurt.
They have also destroyed the Quinnipiac River Park by tearing it all up. When does this end??? I'm so tired of hearing and seeing the bikes. Every time they race down Front Street I hope for an accident involving them and a pole. I don't even think anyone from the city reads these any more! Start confiscating any off road vehicle that is driven on the road period! Then take it to alderman dow and sell it for scrap, the money can go towards a parks fund to fix everything these jerks have wrecked! I understand the no chase issue but can't they be chased off the road... flying over a curb will at least slow them down. I watched a state police cruiser stop one of these dirt bike riders, he chased and got him so close to the curb he had to stop. It was awesome, maybe NHPD can learn this technique.
Same issues with them riding down Ferry St. They "pop wheelies" in the middle of the street and ride down the sidewalks. I agree...when is this going to end. They have no consideration for anyone. I almost ran into one of the dirt bikes when he came out a side street. He ran a red light and I almost didn't see him. If it's illegal for auto's to run redlights and act in a reckless manner on public street, then don't these same laws apply for ATV's and dirt bike's? Why is this not being enforced?
I am closing dirt bike/ATV complaints that pre-date the conclusion of the police undercover operation (see www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/9_arrested_in_dirt_bike_sting/). I do not expect the dirt bike/ATV issue to be completely solved, but it will be helpful to policing efforts to distinguish new reports from those before last month's operation. The operation was not a one-off effort to address this issue, and information reported in new issues is helpful.
Please open up new SCF issues as dirt bike/ATV issues re-occur.
