Description
There is a cross walk to cross Temple Street, at the corner of Wall, and it is marked on the road with white lines! Business people and students (even a group of daycare children with their teachers) cross this very busy intersection all the time. Cars ignore the crosswalk and the pedestrians trying to cross. Cars speed down Temple (one way)to Elm St., and even when a walker is in the midst of crossing they ignore them! Can one of those "pedestrian walkway" signs on a stand be placed in the middle of the walkway please? Thanks for your assistance!

Barbara,
It looks like the map marker for this issue was showing up somewhere in Dixwell. I've relocated it for you, and the public watchers in this area have been notified!
Thanks very much for working with us,
Andrew

Thank you for the comments on this intersection. We will send a referral to NHPD and YPD to help with enforcement of the pedestrian right-of-way. Unfortunately, the in-road pedestrian signs are placed on two-way streets with unsignalized crosswalks. That is a national regulatory standard. We have just a handful of in-road signs still available for this year, but they are available if you know of a suggestion that meets the criteria above.

Mike, Thanks for the explanation. I have to say I am really impressed with ClickFix and the follow-up to my request.
There ARE, right before the intersection with Wall, as you are on Temple, signs on either side of the street, informing people of the crosswalk ahead, but who sees or reads them? Very few, I am sure, if you took a survey. Can the signs be repainted? In yellow? Or, can the crosswalk lines themselves be painted in blaze orange or neon yellow instead of the current white lines in the road, so they are more noticible?
Well, anyway, whatever can be done is appreciated and it's nice to know people are, indeed, aware of the situation. My thanks again.

Hey Mike,
Did you pick up the extra one at State Street and Hines Place?

Thanks, but I should tell you that, so far, enforcement has not been undertaken too seriously. Several times I have crossed at that crosswalk with a parked NHPD car with an officer sitting inside right at that corner on Wall Street facing Temple. I stand in the crosswalk and multiple cars zoom by me and the officer does nothing.

Mike,
As a resident of the property directly adjoining this crosswalk, and a frequent user of this crosswalk, I request rectangular rapid flash beacons:

(Approved for interim use by the Federal Highway Administration for this type of situation).

Hi, it's Barbara again. As you know, a lot of students and university people have moved out for the summer, and now a lot of new people, unfamiliar with New Haven, are arriving from other cities, states and countries. These new people are/will be living and/or walking in this area with the crosswalk at Temple and Wall, as tourists, interns, parents with college-tour kids, summer students studying at Yale and other colleges, reunion classes, etc., - you name it! And they are unfamiliar with the landscape. So now I beleive it's a safety concern not only for those AWARE of the Temple/Wall St crosswalk, but more so for those NOT AWARE of it. In hoping for a solution, perhaps a start might be just repainting the crosswalk strips again in bright white. Any possibility of that being done? Thanks again.

Temple and Wall i almost got hit last week i was already half way cross the street a lady with kids in the car kept coming i had to throw my hands up and step back she kept going and the car behind her i said it's the law you should stop i was in the middle of the walk way, the signs should be there all the time so drivers will know i was furious a lot of cars don't even plan to stop, leave the law sign in the street before someone get's killed as i could have, the walkway on Orange and Audubon is so much better cars do stop or slow up to let you cross. where ever there is a cross walk like these put something up or in the middle of the street to let them know, i don't just jump in the street i wait to make sure it's safe to cross before she got to me i was there, i was so @#$% and upset it did not matter to her she had kids in the car. Thanks Ms. Marshall

Ms Marshall, you described it all so well. As we know, it is terrifying to start safely across the walkway, as you did, seeing cars down toward Grove, only to see them speeding toward you as you are holding your hands out to signal them to stop - which they rarely do - before you then make a run to the other side. If I ever yell at them to "stop! It's a crosswalk" it often results in a sneer, a look of confusion, or a finger. However, once in a very nice while, someone will nod and sheepishly mouth "sorry" as they realize they did not stop. Or, sometimes, the drivers nod, actually stop and let pedestrians cross! And it feels so good when that happens. :)
Ok, awesome CLICKFIX watchers and commenters, there must be a solution, and together, it can be found. Thanks for keeping this active. Appreciate the assistance.

Looks like all that can be done has or is being done. Thanks!
