Description
My professor and I were nearly struck by a vehicle at the above intersection because the driver failed to yield. At the time of the incident, there was a yield sign at the intersection, but it is no longer there.
For starters, increased police/security visibility at the intersection would help. So, too, would clear, unmistakeable yield signage. The speed at which some motorists proceed through the intersection simply indicates a lack of awareness to slow down. Some drive at speeds in excess of 50km/h through the intersection and think a slight touch of the break pad is sufficient, which is still way too fast to react safely to a pedestrian or cyclist, especially at peak traffic hours, which seems to be often throughout the day.
I appreciate very much your concern of this matter.

College & Wall was one of the first issues ever reported on SeeClickFix. It is still open and has 69 "votes to fix."
Suggestions for changes and additional enforcement are posted here:
http://www.seeclickfix.com/issues/429-drivers-ignoring-the-crosswalk
Improvements are needed, including a year round in street sign or median, ongoing enforcement, plus curb extensions.
I recommend closing this issue and directing comments to the existing thread about what to do here.

If interested, a bit more of the interesting history behind this is posted at http://www.newhavensafestreets.org/2008/08/response-from-mayor-destefano-on-in.html and http://www.newhavensafestreets.org/2011/09/coalition-receives-response-from-mayor.html
Just getting the yellow bollard here (which is not in place year round, but should be) took many years.
