The whole light cycle is short. You get 3 cars between lights when traveling N or S on 100 . Then you have to contend with those idiots who think the 3rd lane is for them to blow past everyone then shove their way in.

This evening we went to have dinner at Chili's, and once again had to wait 2 light changes to get across Rte 100 from State St. I frequent Giant and the same thing happens. Get PennDot or whomever is in charge of regulating the street lights. More time is needed to get across and also to return.

yes, there are times I sit at this light for 3 - 4 changes as I am attempting to cross through. I work part time in that shopping center and crossing that light several times a week can be very frustrating escpecially around 5:00. This should definately be looked at.

Try sitting in the turn lane on a motorcycle. It never trips because the sensors are way back about 200 feet from the intersection. I think they only trigger faster when they sense the traffic back up . Until then , they are on a timer.

what exactly is the point of that far right lane going southbound on 100 at this intersection. I agree, people try to blow by everyone in that lane and then cut over, and I have seen people turning out of the Giant shopping center (making the right) and getting into that lane and then merging into the correct "right" lane. It 's confusing and pointless to have this lane. what's the purpose?

I live on Upland Street, which is directly south of the Rt. 100 and Upland Square intersection. There are numerous accidents every week at that intersection. Perhaps the timing of the lights are one reason, as the number of cars allowed passage during one light cycle is low, which then (as this Anonymous has indicated) leads to drivers running the red light. However, there is another issue which could be addressed at each of the Rt. 100 Northbound intersections - lower the speed limit from 55 MPH to 45 or 35 MPH on either side of the light. It is very difficult to go from 55 MPH to a dead stop within the time it takes for a yellow light to turn red. It may be helpful to inspect the statistics from areas which have this 55, 45, 55 speed limit procedure in place. Compare the accident and fatality rates to see if it would make sense. See how much it would cost to put a traffic officer at the intersection compared to the cost of paying officers, EMT's, and accident clean-up crews called in for each accident per month.

THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TIMING FROM GIANT/TARGET/BEST BUY TO STATE ST. IS STILL HORRIBLE! WHEN WILL THEY LEARN THAT IT ONLY LETS A FEW CARS CROSS OVER THE WIDE ROUTE 100 INTERSECTION AT A TIME? ALMOST EVERY LIGHT CHANGE THERE ARE PEOPLE GOING ON THE RED. THIS IS HAZARDOUS AND COULD BE EASILY CHANGED BY LENGTHENING THE LIGHT CHANGE FOR JUST A FEW MORE SECONDS. THE DUMMIES WHO BUILT TWO RIGHT TURN LANES AND TWO LEFT TURN LANES COMING OUT OF THE SHOPPING CENTER GREATLY UNDERESTIMATED THE VOLUME OF TRAFFIC CROSSING OVER ROUTE 100 TO STATE ST. IT TAKES QUITE A WHILE FOR THE TRAFFIC TO GET GOING AGAIN AND IT WOULD CLEAR THE BACKLOG OF TRAFFIC IS THEY SIMPLY ADDED A FEW MORE SECONDS. WAITING FOR THREE LIGHT CHANGES IS LUDICROUS!!!

I too am sick of nobody fixing the traffic light to cross rt 100. It last exactly 10 seconds which only 5 cars can cross and that's if they are paying attention. During holiday shopping that traffic gets backed up all the way down Wilson Street to Farmington Ave. It is ridiculous that the borough and penn dot can't change the timing.

Does anyone in official office ever read this? We need to post in newspaper, over and over again. What a poor engineering decision and nobody can change it????????

Try calling the STATE

The intersection has one of the best designed timing cycles I have seen. The lights on all ends are shorter and have quicker cycles causing traffic to flow faster. While you might have to wait a cycle, it tends to be quicker then, for example, down the road at Shoemaker Road and 100 (Wallmart.)

I really wish more intersections in the area that use traffic lights would follow this timing example.

The intersection is split between UPPER POTTSGROVE and WEST POTTSGROVE . Pottstown Boro has ZERO jurisdiction .

PADOT controls the light timing on this state-owned highway. None of the townships/boro's have anything to do with it. Cal PADOT

Actually, the municipalities are responsible for the maintenance of the traffic signals tht fall within their limits.

If there is a timing issue, changes get made at their request of the muni , by a third party contractor after the proper traffic study is done and is within conformance of DOT standards.
