Description
There is currently no safe way to ride a bicycle from Union Station via 1st St NE through the New York Ave/Florida Ave intersection. To do it now you wither need to risk life and limb riding with traffic through a confusing and congested intersection or ride the wrong way on the sidewalk, endangering pedestrians. Please address this issue, especially if and when this intersection gets redesigned.

I agree; a robust on-street lane marking solution....placed down with durable raised thermoplastic....needs to be engineered. Perhaps it's a separated curbside bike lane, MUTCD sharrows, "bike boxes."
Video detection of cyclists waiting to traverse the intersection should be strongly considered, along with retiming of signals to allow cyclists to enter the intersection first with priority after signal changes.
While we're at it, lets improve crossing safety for pedestrians, particularly the disabled and seniors who need more time to cross an intersection, and the nearby school children who may not have the same level of judgment in making these crossings as adults.
