If bicyclists were truly concerned for their safety they would choose roads without so many blind spots created by hills, valleys, corners, and greenery. They also might try riding in a single-file fashion. How many of us have been stuck behind a spandex-clad, 10 speeder, in the middle of the road riding side-by-side with his friend (or closest 5 friends in a huge cluster-"fudge" in the middle of the road)? They risk their lives (and mine) by caring more about their conversation (and by extension themselves) than safety.
Which is more dangerous; a) a small dent in the surface of the Earth or b) being hit by a car that you darted out in front of (people have been killed on this road).
If I thought something was not safe, I would not make it a family activity.

Is there really a road that has drivers on it who aren't impatient, who don't text or talk on their cell phones while driving with their knees, and who also don't eat and drink and smoke and a dozen other things while they are driving? Please send us this magic road and we will go there..
I agree that there are cyclists who don't always follow the best rules of the road and put themselves and others in jeopardy, but the same could be said about automobile drivers, and more so!!!!
We need to share the road. At the end of the day, you've got to ask yourself what is wrong with me if I can't wait a few extra seconds so that a cyclists could safely get back to the side of the road and most importantly, back to their kids and family. Imagine if your kid or spouse or loved one was out on the rode and veered off course by accident and someone like you were right behind them??
