Green Lake Road is an unbelievable mess between Green Lake Road and Commerce. I try to drive in the center but it gets a little dangerous especially with on coming traffic, otherwise I will blow a tire or shocks. Is this even on the radar for repavement? Northwestern Highway was already repaved again and didn't need it and situations like this exists...duh?????
We are aware of the condition of this road, and appreciate your concern. We are seeking federal funding to resurface this road, but have not yet received any funding. Without federal funding, there is no money available for resurfacing. It looks like the earliest we would likely receive federal funding would be 2016.

Are you stating that the soonest this will be done is 2016? Really? Not sure if this road will hold up that long. Guess we better start working on our Congressmen (women) while it is an election year and we have some leverage - since they are not motivated by doing the peoples work - just the lobbyists - Just like the state legislators who took money from the slum landlord Matty Maroun and his 'Let the People Decide' campaign.
Would these losers in Congress finally do something for us instead of guarnteeing pensions and free retirement healthcare while the rest of us pay for that, do without, and have to drive on these crappy roads to boot! Shame on them. The President is not the issue - CONGRESS IS!
Your response is so indicative of the state of local government, which has become little more than an employment agency of first resort. I never see RCOC employees doing anything other than driving county trucks around with no apparent destination; nobody is out making repairs. Why is that? You claim that your staffing is a 1960's levels. I would venture that your management comprises a historically high proportion of your total staffing. Could it be that you have too many "decision-makers" and not enough worker bees? C'mon, get with the program. Oakland County roads look more like Mexican border-town streets. There's no excuse for your answer of 2016. At the very least, try to make some semblance of quality repairs besides cold-patching, which is a joke, at best.
We understand and share your frustration. Unfortunately, Michigan is in a road funding crisis. Our budget dropped for each of the last five years after being flat for nearly 10 years before that. We are getting less revenue than in 2000, but all of our expenses have gone up dramatically in the intervening 12 years -- many by triple digits. We have reduced our staff by 27 percent since 2007 and now have fewer employees than at any time since at least 1960 (though the road system is far larger and much more heavily traveled than 50 years ago). We do not have any more management than 50 years ago, and probably have less. This is the reality we must deal with. Michigan has been in the bottom 10 states in the nation in per capita road funding since at least 1964. In other words, we have paid less to maintain our roads than virtually any other state. Ultimately, you get what you pay for. We do not control when the far too few federal dollars are available. We must compete with all the cities and villages in the county for those dollars, and all road projects compete against each other for the money. Those with the most traffic and the greatest safety issues receive the funding first. Green Lake does not rise to the top in either of these categories. In other words, there are numerous other roads in the county in equally bad or worse shape, against which Green Lake is competing for far too few dollars. We would love to fix Green Lake. We know what the problem is and we know how to fix it it. That's what we do. We simply do not have the funding to do so. This is tremendously frustrating for us, just as it is for you.

How is it that a purely local road (officially a county road) is somehow deemed a federal or state responsibility? If we want decent roads, we must tax ourselves accordingly. If we do not, businesses will decide to remain or relocate partly on that basis. The condition of our roads is a primary signature of the quality of life in West Bloomfield and in Oakland County (which has been falling, year-after-year, as one of the elite counties in the US). We are not just competing with other states. Macomb County, because of its recent two decade boom, has a far newer infrastructure and consequently a newer road system. Oakland County (and West Bloomfield) can only maintain its stature as a desirable location for businesses and residences if it makes a clear commitment to a certain standard for quality of life, which includes a sustainable infrastructure.
I would propose out tax dollars pay for the materials, and our tax dollars that already pay for prisoners have them do the digging, filling and manual labor. That would be a cost effective way to handle this issue.
As a daily driver of Green Lake Road, I am appalled that these repairs are not even on the agenda.
I have seen accidents on this road from people trying to avoid the potholes. I have seen police cars trying to get to the accident scene but they must go slowly just like the rest of us, because they cannot afford to destroy their cars either. Can we really handle more traffic on Union Lake Road?
Disappointed in the state of Michigan. County should be on it shouldn't they? There is no way that road will make it to 2015. Absolutely no way.
When we call an ambulance to get to our nursing home they cant even make it down that road! This shortens thier response time significantly and peoples lives are on the line. Drivers are driving in peoples yards and each side of the road is equally dangerous. Quit funding stupid things and fix these roads so we can make more money to be taxed.
Green Lake Road patched: I travel Green Lake Road at least 4 times a day; back and forth from work plus errands. On my way to work this morning at 8:15 a.m., I noticed that Green Lake Road has been patched to some extent. It is still not perfect, but far better that it was on Friday. This is a temporary fix, but I will take what I can get for today.
Dear Oakland co. Road commission what about the 30 million dollars you have going to the construction of roundabouts on orchard lk rd and northwestern hwy? Shouldn't that money be spent on green lake rd. and other Roads in Oakland County! What a joke to even live in Oakland county? It's embarrassing? People are killing themselves to miss potholes! As well as trying to figure out another round about!!!!!
