That whole intersection along with a section of Washington Avenue needs to be revamped. Driving down Wash. from traffic circle to Shwenk: 1.the left lane needs to start just after Dutch Village. 2. the center lane should stay the same. 3. the right lane can start later. Most important is the back up blocking the left lane and drivers crossing the double yellow to make the left turn to Shwenk.
The timing of all the lights on Washington Ave are set so you stop at EVERY light going from Rt 32 to Hurley Ave. and sometimes includes Sawkill. This is an awful drive!
When cars traveling east on Washington Ave turn left onto Schwenk Drive, there is no reason why cars traveling on Schwenk cannot turn right onto Washington. The "no turn on red" makes no sense because all cars at that moment are using the same lanes; there is no interfering with any other traffic.
After 9 pm and before 7 am this traffic light should be flashing red. What a waste of fuel to sit 2 minutes to wait for it to change and no traffic for miles.
Tsk, tsk, Mr. Garesche. The word is "ridiculous", from the root word "ridicule". It's not "diculous" all over again. That said, I have to disagree with those who want the lights on Washington Ave. to turn blinking red/yellow at night. I live on Washington Ave., and you'd think it was a highway the way people speed on this street. People would ignore the blinking lights and just "kind of slow down" through the intersection. There would likely be t-bone accidents resulting in serious injury. Instead, as another poster wrote, the lights should be timed. It's extremely frustrating to sit at a red light and see the green light at the next block. By the time your light turns green, the next block is red.
Well they just finished the major upgrade to the lights and sensors - so I'm closing this issue. If there continues to be a problem, it deserves a new issue.
