Description

This issue was archived rather than being addressed and continues to pose a safety issue which is now exacerbated by freezing temperatures that result in the entire area icing over. It never dries out, but rather continues to collect rain, snow, ice making it treacherous or impossible at times to use the crosswalk at all.

Again, the two crosswalks on the South side of Madison Ave., between 462 and 474 Madison Ave (near both the front of the Downtube and Hounds on the Husdon) have standing water if it rains or snows and have no way to drain. This creates an ongoing, and repeatedly reported accessibility, safety and health issue.

The standing water draws misquitoes in the hot weather, and is slick with leaves under the water in the fall. In winter they become an ice rink and more people fall. Pedestrians are often unable to use the crosswalks at all when filled with water/ice and are then in harm's way, unable to safely cross at this very high traffic intersection.

Broken glass, used hypodermic needles, and other potentially injurious waste often accumulates under the water, leaves and trash debris and remain there. Crosswalks that are hazardous or not usable are not crosswalks. This is a priority issue as it is also right in front of a day care where children need to be able to use the crosswalk.
