Thank you for contacting the Oakland Call Center, the public works department is not staffed to abate small amount of scattered trash. If you would like to become a volunteer to help keep Oakland clean, please contact Michael Perlmutter at (510) 238-7294. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Actually it's not a small pile of trash. I pass this every day and it's been building all week. Since I am on the PEC, I see a lot of embarassment that Oakland could be ridiculed for and want to give our city services a chance to do what it's supposed to. I volunteer my time to do things like clean up around St. Andrews Plaza (along with several of my neighbors). I don't know why folks continue to dump by this area but it appears that because it's across from the encampment on San Pablo and West Grand, folks continuously just dump. I hope that they will put a dumpster in that area, perhaps that will abate it. But knowing how hard the DPW does try to work to keep this filthy city clean, its a cycle of filth that unless we can get things fixed between Waste Management and the other resources that are sanitation driven in this City, it's endless to imagine how to fix it. Frankly, our citizens need to stop acting like DPW is their person maids and butlers and learn to be less nasty.
