In the last two weeks I was either unable to go or stay in the Union Street Dog Park because of dog aggressive dogs. Today in the morning it was a Golden Retriever. About two weeks ago on a Friday evening it was a mix breed medium size dog. I also found a small sized tennis ball a few days ago in the large dog part of the park, a dog could have swallowed it if he got a hold of it.

The only way that a public dog park can be enjoyable and safe is if the users support each other. If a dog is aggressive, one should ask the owner to control or remove the dog. Hopefully other dog owners will help the owner understand what aggressive behavior is. If the owner is completely uncooperative, you always have the option of filing a nuisance dog complaint with Animal Control. In the event of an actual attack, or if an owner is being threatening, you can also call the police.
I really hope that we begin to see a new community developing at the park. We had a lot of "turnover" this year, and efforts have been made, especially through our Facebook page, informational flyers, and advertised clean-up events, to involve park users, but those of you who use the park frequently are really the people who will determine if you are willing to build a shared community.
So when you see people there, talk to them, ask them to join the Facebook page, and ask them to read the park guidelines (I will deliver more this week, though they are online at our webpage).
