Description

the traffic lights on Canal Street, intersecting at 2nd and 3rd streets, became out of synch. Prior to this date, the lights would be green at the same time, allowing for easy traffic flow to the on-ramp for 195 and toward Belvidere. Now, the lights are on opposite openings, which causes a backup during rush hour, not only on Canal, but on 5th street, below Canal. The lights are now only allowing one block’s length of traffic to proceed through the light at 3rd street, since the light at 2nd street remains red. Every worker leaving Mead Westvaco and Dominion’s Tredegar campus has been held on 5th street for an average of 30 minutes during rush hour since November 5th. Prior to this lighting change, the average time was 5-10 minutes
