This isn't all that CB Utility damaged; they left the railroad right-of-way a shambles north of the Van Zandt overpass and further damaged the RR crossings at Poplar and Elm Streets.

Remediation is underway. A layer of top soil now covers the site. I am told this is state property and that the contractor had until the end of the month to address the gravel left behind from the pipe replacement. In any case, city officials could and should have informed the community about their plans for this site before the initial posting to SeeClickFix. Now, I'm wondering about the huge piles of excavated dirt just north of the Van Zandt Bridge and highly visible for all those drivers taking the Scenic Newport exit.

A layer of top soil has been spread across the area. It looks much better. Now we just need to plant bright flowers to greet the thousands of people who drive past this prominent intersection each day.

I am so glad that this is being fixed, although we won't see daffodils until next year.

I live out of the area and came upon it while in town in April 2008 due to a death in the family. It was in glorious bloom that day and took my breath away.

Due to traffic behind me I had to keep moving, but made it a point to go that route whenever I had to go to Middletown during that week.
