I'm told there is a reason, and it involves a potential overhead safety hazard. Once we learned of the details, the neighborhood association (Harsimus Cove Association) has engaged the City and the North Baptist Church on behalf of interested neighborhood residents to work on solutions.
Our immediate priority is ensuring people are protected from unseen danger. Our other goals are (long-term) to ensure that church structure is preserved/restored as its a historic building, and (shorter term) to look into a protected way for people walk safely on that side of the street while that is being worked on.
I just followed up with the City earlier this morning to continue this discussion.
Feel free to come by our meeting on October 10th, 7:30 at Grace Van Vorst Church. The agenda is full will guest speakers, but I do plan to address this in the preliminaries.

I have no idea - I'm new to SeeClickFix.
The barrier remains up.
