You have to practically stop to see what traffic is coming. Many people, if they are behind you, want you to keep moving and almost rear-end you as you check to see what traffic is approaching. If there was a Stop sign, everyone would get the message that they have to stop and check for oncoming traffic. The acceleration lane is VERY short and you are going up a hill so you cannot accelerate as fast as you'd like if there is traffic coming up.
