Oakland has a huge problem with trash dumping. I would calculate how much the city spends on this type of clean and compare it to how much they are charge to dump this mess. I would be more money is spent on clean up then dumping I would just make it free to dump for all residents who live below on MacArthur or below. And I would make fines for dumping so large that families would lose children as they would have no excuse not to put the trash in the right spot. I would enforce litter laws get caught throwing trash on the floor no government benefits. For a few months if you have children who can eat they go to foster care. And you then get to pick up the trash in a neighborhood for the three months you get no benefits. If you have a job a 2 year fine and a daily neighborhood clean up for 1 year. That's how I would fix it.
Tommy - I agree. This is what I could snap on See Click Fix but I was in a rush. My god that area is like a 3rd world country it's so bad with garbage. I can't believe the city continues to allow this to happen.
Agreed. Maybe not as drastic as Tommy, but free dumping and huge fine. I would even consider street cameras. Also in my neighborhood, where it is not this bad but still has gotten so much worse in the last year, I would volunteer to pick up my neighbor with my truck if I did not have to pay for it. Either way big issue the CITY better deal with.
Please check out the Keep Oakland Beautiful program. They supply our volunteers with plastic trash bags and green waste bags, pick up sticks, gloves and reflective vests. We work out a pick up location for the city PWD crews to haul it away.
If you fill out an application Dpw will approve you to put things in a bag and place them neatly and your pick up are a priority. They will supply the tools and bags. No need to waste gas. I did this in San Francisco for 6 month even bought trash can and tied them to the poles . 3000bags of garbage and stopped dumping in 3 hot spots got rid of 3 crack houses and the city finally put trash cans in our neighborhood. I started painting the sign poles one color and they try to give me a ticket and fine. I ended up cleaning about 1/2 a mile. I feel like the neighborhood cares a little more and they pick the trash a sweep the dirt to the curb. Now if I can get them to understand that the street is cleaned once a week stop spitting and throwing you cigarette buts on the sidewalk
