Description

Bellevue Avenue Sidewalk Complete Surface Deterioration Dangerous and Uncomfortable for Pedestrians (Along the entire avenue on both sides from Bailey's Beach to the Newport Casino, Tennis Hall of Fame):

I absolutely agree that the Bellevue Avenue sidewalks need to be redone! They are not only extremely uncomfortable to walk along, even in good tennis shoes, but also very dangerous for many pedestrians and joggers. If Newport wants to maintain status as a world class tourist destination, i.e. the improvements of Gilded Age mansions by the Preservation Society of Newport County, then the Bellevue Avenue sidewalks must be improved. This is an investment in the future of Newport and can't be taken lightly. I have been advocating for years about the need to improve Bellevue, including repairs to the constantly broken pedestrian cross-walk signals. Which, by the way still only partially work even though I was assured they had been repaired multiple times. - Please help repair the Bellevue Avenue sidewalks, it is the most important pedestrian walkway in Newport - because although one might think "wouldn't people rather take a car or bus to visit the mansions?" - my answer is no, because the point of coming here is to slow down for a few days, relax and enjoy a pace of life once primarily experienced on foot in conversation with friends and family. That is the point of this great city. Let's not ruin that experience for generations to come by being the generation who dropped the ball and failed to maintain the city's most basic infrastructure. - Rob
