Marcy, please understand my comment has nothing to do with speed. It has to do with proper and orderly flow of heavy traffic. Perhaps you should try driving to 16th Street, turning North, then using the demand light at 22nd to guarantee you a safe WB turn--that's exactly what I do but I am nearest MLK! Trying to turn WB onto 22nd is not a safe move at almost any time of the day. My point is that the intersection once worked very well handling the flow of both E-W and N-S traffic smoothly with E-W traffic being priority unless interrupted by N-S traffic demand. Now the light is inordinately long with an unrequested pedestrian crossing unecessarily delaying the signal change. And to have the light change red for E-W traffic when there is no N-S traffic is totally absurd. There are not many very poorly programmed intersections in St Pete, but this is definitely one of the worst.
