Thank you for reporting this shopping cart. I have also been vexed by the number of abandoned shopping carts throughout the city.
I haver spent about two hours negotiating with the local Trader Joes, as well as their corporate office, to provide an email address or hotline for reporting abandoned shopping carts. All of them unilaterally told me that they are not interested in setting up an easy way for people to report abandoned shopping carts, because they simply do not have the time nor staff to take care of these matters. Furthermore, the Alameda Trader Joes Manager told me that he simply orders 300 new shopping carts per year, because they are stolen at such a high rate. They flat out told me that it's not a priority for them.
What else can we do? As I walk around on each and every street in Alameda, I know of remote locations where shopping carts have been sitting for over one year.
If there is a store name on the shopping cart you will get it picked up faster by calling the store and telling them where it is. They often contract with service providers who go around and collect them. Sometimes there is even an 800 number to call.
Hamon: Whenever you see a SeeClickFix submission for an abandoned shopping cart, please call the 800 phone number, or the store directly. In the past it has been a very time consuming effort for me to call in, one shopping cart at a time. That's why I specifically said that I had been working with Trader Joes to set-up an easy way to notify them of abandoned shopping carts. We explored the option of creating an App, or creating an email address that we would send the notifications to. However, Trader Joes is simply not interested in facilitating any solutions.
