There are actual skunks in the neighborhood (If you have a dog, beware!) and they tend to come out at night, as well as the fact that weed/marijuana can have a skunk-like odor (Or so I've been told.)

@elmcity rez- There are skunks about and they do spray , an unmistakable odor..And yes the smell of K-2 ,Molly , and whatever other synthetic weed is on the market smells like skunk , the user behaves in a rabid fashion.

@benhv gas smells like rotten eggs, it is the additive they put in to detect a leak. Skunk smells very different. What you are smelling is skunk, quite possibly a dead one most likely hit by a car. The hot weather has caused a drought and their food is in short supply, causing them to go where they don't normally like to go. Around humans. Dumpsters especially, and with everyone coming back to or starting school, those dumpsters are full of food. Skunks are very shy animals and avoid humans as much as possible. And when they have to be where we are, they spray to keep us and predators away.
