These tennis courts have been unusable for months—maybe years—because of city neglect. Trash was allowed to accumulate over the long term, and grass allowed to grow wild in the cracks in the pavement of the courts. City workers finally cleaned up the courts a month or so ago, even digging up the grass. For a few weeks, people could actually use the courts for tennis. There's no excuse that the city should then allow the trashing to take back up after so many complaints and so much work was done to clean them up. Some long-term plan should be put in place to keep the courts cleaned and maintained. This should be a joint project of the mayor's office, the city administrator's office, the office of parks and recreation, and the office of the Councilmember who represents this district, Larry Reid, and any long-term maintenance plan should be made available to the public—by notices on the tennis courts themselves—so that local residents can know what's going on.
