This was a poor design from the beginning. All you do is force the curb lane traffic to force itself into the center lane traffic 200 feet down Mt. Vernon instead of forming a single line on Dunwoody Village Parkway. The markings on the curb lane of Mt. Vernon only suggest a right turn into the office park and not a merge into the left lane. Dumb.

It's a decent design; it helps prevent backup on Dunwoody Village Parkway allowing more cars through the intersection after waiting at the light, and there's enough room on Eastbound Mount Vernon Highway for traffic to merge. Because this makes narrow-minded people angry is no reason to change it back to the old, inefficient way.

We wouldn't be discussing this issue had Dunwoody Village Pkwy been left as it was. The dumb idea was changing it in the first place.

I vote for only one Left turn lane on Dunwoody Village Pkwy -- It doesn't help traffic on DVP by allowing both the left and right line to turn onto eastbound Mt Vernon (once there is someone turning left from the right land no cars can turn right until the light changes), And it doesn't help Mt Vernon traffic because there are too many people who make a wide turn from the left turn land onto MT Vernon -- their wide turn takes up part of both lanes on Mt Vernon. I think the right lane on DVP should only allow straight or Right.

How about if we leave this up to the traffic planners who we pay with our taxes to study traffic patterns, and who have studied traffic patterns at this intersection, and let them set things up in the most beneficial way to us motorists?

I think the new design for the intersection works well as it increases capacity at peak times. Keep it as it is now. Don't waste tax dollars putting it back to the old way.

Actually the old way was, perhaps, more efficient. DVP is now a single lane in each direction and only in the last 150 feet or so does it expand into two lanes for exiting traffic. Currently this 150 feet of two lane traffic is then allowed to turn left (onto Mt. Vernon) and is shortly forced back into one lane to move east on Mt. Vernon. Does this make sense?

A guide line will be added through the intersection for the dual left turns. Two left turn lanes prevent traffic backups on Dunwoody Village Parkway and there is enough distance on Mount Vernon for a safe merge down to one lane.

Then you should also take the time to adequately mark the merge area on Mt. Vernon so drivers in both lanes understand what is to happen there. One right turn arrow at the end of the right hand lane is sufficient to serve the minimal traffic that may use that entrance while eastbound on Mt. Vernon.
