If I may respond (I am the original poster): I would not have presumed the officer's intentions had this been an isolated event. But it isn't an isolated event. I see this same activity daily on my way to school and work in the same area. Police officers need to understand that upholding the law means following the law as well.

This debate has been explored exhaustively in other threads, generating much heat and very little light.

What would be useful would be if someone could find any relevant state statues that detail the circumstances under which police are exempt from traffic laws.

There is this one awful cop in Hamden... he always drives an SUV in the mid mornings.... and he usually has a goatee, maybe 40-45 years old, white, tan.
Very rude, and often treats even non-criminals like crap!
Wouldn't surprise me if he was a red light runner. I can find his name sometime soon.

I live in close proximity to the New Haven Police Headquarters on Union Ave. Many times a day police run the light at my intersection, sometimes they flash their lights long enough to get through the red light. This is a very common problem. I voted for your issue, I hope it's corrected in your area as well as mine.

This is totally unacceptable and disgusting behavior that happens city wide. The NHPD consists of many people and it is possible that there are only a few officers who do this, but it makes citizens angry and makes the whole department look bad. Next time try to note the time, date, street, and car number and post it here.

how: wear red. flood the intersection crossing all directions when the pedestrian walk signal is lit. (please use caution and obey all traffic laws)
