Description
Yesterday 3/21/10 My family and I were at Hubbard park..(With the overflowing trashcans at the playground)
And decided to walk around the pond, there is a duck there looking like it is scratching an itch..it isn't.
it is moving its leg like that because it is broken and pointed inward, the creature is in obvious pain and needs help!

Mark,
If the bird can be captured, Kensington Bird & Animal Hospital in Berlin will fix the injury, if it can be fixed. They are very generous with their assistance. You may need the help of a wildlife person to capture the bird. Mary Mushinsky, QRWA

Mary,
Thank you for the information, If it were a dog I would attempt to catch it myself but this duck is a bit out of my experience.
I have sent an Email to Town Hall I sure hope they get on this the poor thing is in obvious pain and I really do not think it was a natural occurrence.
There should be a camera on that pond because there are people that don't give a @#$% what they do while there....snapple bottles and plastic bags just tossed in the water...a real shame.

Mark,
you or the city will need to get help from a wildlife person to capture the bird. They will have the expertise, nets etc. Then the bird can go to Kensington Bird & Animal for treatment. Mary Mushinsky

Mark,
Ted Gilman from Audubon says to contact the licensed wildlife rehabilitator via Hungerford Park at 860-827-9064 to see if they can assist the bird. They may also have other referral names for you. Mary Mushinsky, QRWA

So you were perfectly capable of helping this wounded duck but chose to go home and post on a newspaper website? How about calling animal control? Who did you expect to read this and jump into action? The duck is probably dead now because you felt someone else should be the on to help it. Bravo!

it is sad. i was there a few weeks ago and it looked like there was a duck with a broken wing. i dont know who is responsible for these animals but it seems that its just getting worse. the condition of the park is terrible. this is supposed to be the highlight of meriden? looks like an eyesore. and the parks dept. is right there. overpaid and underworked!!! the people from the kuhn group will be coming in the coming weeks i hope. if everyone picked up their garbage including the city disposing of trash this wouldnt be a problem.
