Description
The following ordinance is not being enforced and the use of bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades has increased dramatically on the downtown sidewalks, specifically, Michigan Avenue. The city needs to install signage in each of the downtown blocks and in both directions. Notices should then be made available and published in the AdVisor as well as in the monthly city newsletter. Not against bicycle riding, rollerblading or skateboarding. However, shoppers and pedestrians on Michigan Ave. are at risk of being hit and injured because a large majority of those using bicycles, etc., are also concentrating more on what they are doing on their cell phones than paying attention to pedestrian traffic.

I will pass this along to the city police. My department does not cover this type of violations.

The City crews will check the signage in these areas and the City Police are actively monitoring this and that it will be an ongoing event. They will begin to enforce this request as time allows.
Thank you

I looked for signs along Michigan Avenue regarding bikes, skateboards and rollerblades warning that they are not allowed, but I found none. There are such signs on some side streets leading up to Michigan Avenue. However, they apparently are not noticed or are being ignored.
Probably a better fix for this issue, in my opinion, would be the addition of 5 or 6 signs in both directions along Michigan Avenue and on both the North and South sides. Pretty hard for the offenders to claim they didn't know that it is illegal when the signs are posted in conspicuous places.
