Description
The New Haven Green, once the religious and cultural heart of New Haven, is again a filthy mess, with food trash, alcohol and drug debris, and perpetrators draped unconscious across park benches. New Haven, can we get involved and clean this up so the pathetic few don't destroy this public treasure for the many?

Agree that there is a serious problem, especially on the Upper Green with drug use and alcohol consumption to the point where there have been multiple ambulance visits in the past few weeks. My question is where are the multitude of social service agencies we have in the city to address issues like this and why aren't they doing any outreach on the Green? It is like this now from the early morning hours till late at night, which is a shame because they obviously need help.
As to the issue of trash, I don't quite understand why there aren't more trash cans out on the Green, as the ones they have now are few and far between, so adding even a few more would help.

Excellent point Mahfouz; maybe it is hopeful thinking on my part to think that if more trash cans were available they would be used more. On the days I walk to and from work, I pass the soup kitchen on Broadway and notice that while there is some trash, it is not to the level found in the places mentioned. Is that because of Yale or the staff of the church or soup kitchen???
It would really be helpful to have a conversation with or get some feedback from the city as to how they plan to address this because the problem is only going to get worse if nothing is done.
