If looking both ways before crossing the street is something a four year old knows, then why do you learn how to drive but still run red lights?

This isn't about me. Isn't that the point of posting about issues in the civic community? I'm worried that someone could get hurt or possibly killed and I want community members to know this is an issue before that happens.

Sure we all need to take personal responsibility for our own safety. But that doesn't mean we should have to accept the Wild West in our communities. There is an epidemic of distracted driving and blatant disregard for the basic rules of the road going on, and it is especially prevalent here in New Haven. We are creating a feedback loop where there appears to be so little traffic enforcement that it makes drivers think there are no consequences for breaking the law, and so they do it even more. We can do better. We should demand safer streets.

I totally agree Rob! I've been begging the Mayor, police and my alder to do something about aggressive driving for years. I have yet to see any response. I was in Maryland recently and saw police everywhere enforcing safety laws. Why not here?
