This should be and must be clean-up, however on the flip side, if this were my job, I wouldn't do this for all the tea in China. We need a long term solution to homeless encampments so that the public and the City workers are not subject to this filth and in harms way.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see the residents who are collecting bottles and cans, who are at risk losing their livelihood, not just because recyclers are shutting down throughout the State (and not just because of the narrative being shared about community members...since that's not the truth but that's how its being reported). These folks have the dignity to go through trash to find bottles, cans and recyclables...but there is more trash in this district than likely anywhere else. So, that would really be awesome...The City should have a budget and give them a living wage and let them be what DPW doesn't do even though DPW does their best...West Oakland has too much illegal dumping...We can activate these citizens to do this.

There must be a way to get at least part of these street people motivated. Paid community service something. I would be depressed living in a tent on the street. So what is up with all these neighborhood recycler's shutting down. Time to do some digging thanks for the prod.

I'll stick my neck out by saying that if the recycling program ever ceases, the streets will be littered with bottles and cans. Moreover, crime will spike for the lack of income and too much idle time. Remember, idle time is the devil's playground.
