Multiple potholes on bike route portion of Whitney. (many bicyclists use sidewalk here)
Word on the street is that all of Whitney is scheduled for repaving this year.
Whitney is apparently not being repaved this year. I've been given many different reasons why - it would be helpful for everyone if paving schedules were more transparent, particularly when they are adjusted. Then residents could understand exactly what was happening, when and why. Many people had said that this road would be repaved by now. Perhaps a master list of all road repaving projects, current and future, can be posted somewhere online?
Supposedly these are being fixed--
but I'll be surprised,
it's been promised numerous times
The City's Bike Plan of 2003/2004 mentioned that bicycle routes, like this, should have higher paving standards and be smooth and free of debris year round.
One of Elm City Cycling's top goals is to ensure that when the Bike Plan is reissued and updated this year, the concerns about pavement quality along key bike routes becomes a key priority.
Doing that will require not just saying it should be important, like the 2003/2004 plan did, but also developing some kind of system of benchmarks and accountability.
Hey, Whitney Avenue is actually being repaved! This issue is officially closed.
Yes, too bad there won't be any thought given by DOT to progressive changes in the lane marking.
Sorry, this issue does not have any images or videos.
