Description
The turn pocket from westbound Lincoln onto southbound 5th St is not functioning properly. Left turn signal has a bike sign on the street but the signal does not detect bikes even when I am riding a very large steel cargo bike that should easily trigger a loop detector. I am often force to run the light. In addition, signal timing is too short. When a car pulls up behind me and triggers the light, the light is red before I have cleared the intersection. This creates pressure on the driver following me and they often pass dangerously and illegally before finishing the turn and when they do not have good visibility on the street ahead.

Maintenance staff inspected the site. Detector works for bike physically. Detector sensitivity not set for bikes. Detector not set for bikes in controller. Controller does not have times for bikes.
Reassigning to Public Works Engineering (Transportation Division) for further review.

OakBikeDaddy's complaint seems to address two issues: one is detector sensitivity/proper adjustment and one is signal timing. BOTH are important...
Green and yellow phases that are too short for cyclists are a problem at many Alameda intersections. Especially when signals are set to change on demand, the green phase AND the yellow caution phase need to be long enough for a slow cyclist to clear the intersection. (At Grand and Central, I often enter the intersection southbound on Grand on green, just as it changes to yellow. The red light is already on in my direction when I am still in the intersection, barely halfway across to the south side of Central.)
