Description

The traffic light at the intersection of Dunwoody Club Dr, Mount Vernon, and Saffron could use some tweaking on the timing. During the weekday you are held up by this signal light if you are coming from Jett Ferry on Dunwoody Club Dr. It stays green for an inordinate amount of time on the Mt Vernon side even after the pedestrian countdown has finished nearly 20-30 seconds before. Most traffic signals turn yellow after the countdown time reaches zero. Not the case at this intersection. I am certain some highly educated traffic engineer has set this timing for a reason but doubt said highly educated traffic engineer has to use this intersection nearly every day. It is actually quicker to cut through the Chase Bank/Sprouts parking lot, come out to Mt Vernon and turn left to avoid the extended and unnecessary timing of this traffic light. As I have watched and timed this light in the past it seemed to me that the timing was set like that for pedestrian traffic. Honestly, I am not there 24/7 but pedestrian traffic is virtually non existent at this intersection and I have never seen anyone cross the street at the longer crosswalk that crosses in front of Dunwoody Club Drive. All pedestrian traffic I have observed go across at Saffron or stay on the sidewalk as it veers down toward Kroger on the right. It seems the signal does run a little better on the weekend but during the week traffic gets backed up well past the Kroger entrance. Would appreciate it if engineers could take a look at this..
