While I don't know if this is the correct forum to discuss this since the topic is really about collecting the branches that have been in the street and on the curb for 2 weeks, I would like to know what the city position is in regard to the constant issue of dumping here?
It's an issue throughout the city not only John Murphy Drive. No easy or one solution to solving it. Can't speak for all city departments but it is a main concern of ours at Public Works and, as you can see by the number of dumping issues we ourselves enter, as well as "fix", it is a focus of ours and our public such as yourself. Many solutions have been offered on SCF alone ie. placing cameras, enforcement, community involvement, citywide meeting. We have tried some and will be open to trying other creative strategies as well. Thanks
I agree it has and probably will continue to be a problem and certainly there are issued through out the city, I see everyday driving across the city. I wish I had a solution but it is well out of control I'm afraid. The best I can do is to continue to monitor and report issues on the street. I have seen others in the recent past have also started to submit reports on dumping on JW Murphy so it helps to have more people active.
Camera's sound like a good idea but have to say I have caught people many times in broad daylight dumping here, they had no care in the world. I have submitted license plate numbers, descriptions and called the NHPD many times over the years here, now 27 years on this street. The only time I am aware of an arrest was when I chased down a thief who was stealing storm grates off the street for scrap money. I chased the truck over to Alderman Dow on Chapel st and NHPD caught the guy there. For the pennies he made he left the street open where pedestrians could literally fall in and be seriously injured or vehicles would crash into as a result. I would have like to know just what penalty that person incurred or if he was let go with a fine?
NHPD can't have a car sitting there 24/7 and the dumpsters will just wait until the street is clear and quickly drop there junk.
If there is a rapid phone number I can call when I spot something going on let me know. 911 really isn't the way to go and tie up the line for dumping.
Yes it is frustrating for all those involved, other then the people who create the problem.
Could someone from the city other then public works respond. I never see anything in the newspaper about someone being fined and having their car towed for illegal dumping. Gary has submitted plate numbers, what does city do with this info? I do not think any surrounding cities and towns have this problem to the extend New Haven does.
Items picked up. Issue closed. If you need to report another issue please submit to See Click Fix or call Department of Public Works at (203) 946 - 7700. Thanks.
