I concur. The new signal system is much more confusing than the simple "Yield to pedestrians" rule. Therefore no one follows it (pedestrians and drivers alike).

Agree - I pass through here every day during the morning and evening commute, and have seen cars regularly drive through while pedestrians are entering the crosswalk, or people even keep driving once pedestrians have already walked into it. Neither drivers nor pedestrians seem to understand how it works. The design seems unusual, and I think is therefore confusing to people when they encounter it. I think the old system for the signal light, while not perfect, was not as confusing. With this new one, people walk out because they see a walk signal, or a countdown, but the cars sometimes keep going.

I totally agree. This new system is a complete farce. It may have sounded good on paper, or at some traffic planning meeting. However, in practical terms it is confusing at best and dangerous at worst. It's only a matter of time before a pedestrian or cyclist is injured if it hasn't happened already.

The City has recently replaced the crosswalk and vehicle STOP bar markings on Binney Street in order to reinforce where vehicles are required to stop on a red signal.
