On the road that runs through Lilydale Park, just west of the railroad trestle is a pullover (across from Pickeral Lake) that is in front of a meadow. For the past two weeks, I have gone there many times to see the fireflies, as this meadow is on of the few habitats left where they can multiply, feed and live. It was a beautiful meadow. This past week, however, when I went to see them (at night), the meadow was hacked down, totally destroying their habitat. Is there no one in the park department that can track the life cycle of fireflies? (as they have been there as long as I can remember, and now have NO HOME). It is indeed a heartbreaking situation. Can what little meadow is left please be left alone until much later in the summer? By the way, the chopping down of this meadow is horrendous - hacking like no one was even paying attention to what they were doing. It is the first day of summer today, and all creatures should be safe, especially in such a large, underdeveloped park (just as we like it). Can Parks and Rec tune in and stop hacking?
