Description
I drive Fairfield at least twice a day every day and there's always at least one vehicle that blows through the stop signs without even slowing down. This problem seems to be getting worse and it's not isolated to this neighborhood. This happens all over town. It's typical for traffic to be moving at least 15 mph over the speed limit, people running red lights, parking in the middle of traffic lanes and blocking traffic and completely ignoring signs and the law. Yet, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone stopped by the police. Makes me wonder why we're paying a fortune for all of the signs, lights and a special "traffic enforcement" unit. I'm not sure traffic could get much worse if we just got rid of all those things. If there were no signs, then people couldn't rely on others to follow the law. And as far as the traffic unit goes, someone would have to explain to me what they are doing besides an occasional speed trap. I see police officers doing extra duty (for additional pay) at construction sites or sitting in parking lots talking to one another. For $68,000 a year they ought to be able to write some tickets. If I'm wrong, someone please explain.
