Description
This intersection needs a traffic light. An ambulance and MANY other car accidents happen in this intersection. People blow right through the stop sign and hit traffic going down ridge road. When you do stop at the stop sign, the trees lined up the street between the sidewalk and street block your view of oncoming traffic. At that point you need to pull forward until you are "in" ridge road where you can and will be hit by another car.
We need to do SOMETHING to fix this intersection!

It was actually quite a debate. Many residents of the surrounding area were present and very passionate about this issue. The proposal was to make both Haverford and High Meadow to be one way streets. My impression from the meeting was that one-way streets will just move the problem spot to a different intersection and that the "real" issue was speeding down Ridge.
I'll admit that being a Haverford Street resident, I am biased towards the stop sign solution. I feel that many Haverford residents also feel the same way, and that High Meadow residents are just as passionate about making High Meadow a one-way street because it also limits traffic cutting through to Hartford Tpke.
One of the concerns of making Haverford St. one-way down from Ridge to Whitney is that it will promote speeding down the hill as the drivers would not have to worry about oncoming traffic. This and other reasons that were discussed at the meeting caused the traffic commission to vote to make it a four way stop. I know I personally would feel safer turning on to Ridge from Haverford if I had some protection. Right now it seems like you are playing chicken with how fast people go on Ridge. I never drive down High Meadow, so making that a one-way as well has no impact on me. :)
So now, the only issue is... how many months does it take to put up a sign?
